Skin tags are common growths that look like tiny, soft balloons of hanging flesh. While unsightly, they are completely benign, and a single person can have anywhere from one to hundreds of individual skin tags. Men and women are equally likely to develop them. Skin tags are typically about 2 mm-5 mm in diameter, but may grow as large as a grape (1 cm in diameter) or even a fig (5 cm in diameter). They are most commonly found on the base of the neck, armpits, eyelids, groin folds, buttock folds, and under the breasts. Of these, the neck and the armpits are the most common.

Skin tags are believed to develop as a result of friction, either friction between skin and skin or between skin and clothing. Friction will also make existing skin tags worse. Try to avoid letting your skin tags rub against jewelry or clothing.
While they are sometimes confused for warts, skin tags are not related to warts, which are caused by the Human Papillomavirus, or HPV. Skin tags are not contagious, generally not cancerous, and do not generally cause pain or discomfort. However, they may occasionally require removal when they become irritated and red from bleeding or black from twisting to the point where blood flow to the tag is interrupted and the skin dies. How to Use Apple Cider Vinegar to Remove Skin Tags
Apple cider vinegar is commonly used in the kitchen for preservative, dressings and marinades, but it also has considerable health benefits. Apple cider vinegar is quite inexpensive at the grocery store, and it can be used to remove skin tags. The acid in the vinegar will destroy the tissue that forms the skin tag without damaging the surrounding skin. When using apple cider vinegar to remove a skin tag, follow these steps:
- Cleanse the skin around the tag using lukewarm water and mild soap.
- Dry the skin thoroughly.
- Scratch the tag with a toothpick, gently so as not to let it not bleed.
- Soak a small piece of cotton in the apple cider vinegar and squeeze out the excess.
- Place the soaked cotton ball on the tag and hold it in place with a bandage.
- Leave the bandage on overnight.
- Remove the bandage and cotton the next morning and rinse the site thoroughly with water.
- Repeat this process for 3-4 days, until the skin tag darkens, dries and falls off.
You may find after the first application that the skin tag is discolored. After a few days of repeating this process, the skin tag will fall off painlessly. Be aware that the first time you apply the vinegar, the acid in it may cause a mild stinging sensation, This is completely normal. If you experience any inflammation or continuous irritation, consult your doctor.
People who have used apple cider vinegar for skin tag removal claim that it not only works quickly, but does so without leaving any scars. The advantage of using this method for tag removal is that it is relatively painless and extremely inexpensive. However, it does take a little more time and consistency for it to work.
Also, feel free to ignore people who insist that you should only use organic apple cider vinegar. A cheap quality vinegar is just as effective at removing skin tags and other unsightly blemishes as a more costly variety. Keep in mind, however, that this doesn’t work for everyone.
